Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Gold, Energy and Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.12%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were STW Communications Group Ltd (ASX:SGN), which rose 7.44% or 0.045 points to trade at 0.650 at the close. Meanwhile, Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX:EVN) added 4.13% or 0.050 points to end at 1.260 and Village Roadshow Ltd (ASX:VRL) was up 3.13% or 0.190 points to 6.260 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Arrium Ltd (ASX:ARI), which fell 6.25% or 0.010 points to trade at 0.150 at the close. Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd (ASX:LNG) declined 6.08% or 0.240 points to end at 3.710 and Regis Resources Ltd (ASX:RRL) was down 5.51% or 0.065 points to 1.115.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 610 to 425 and 176 ended unchanged.
Shares in Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX:EVN) rose to 52-week highs; up 4.13% or 0.050 to 1.260. Shares in Regis Resources Ltd (ASX:RRL) fell to 3-years lows; losing 5.51% or 0.065 to 1.115.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 0.12% to 17.447.
Gold for August delivery was up 0.33% or 3.90 to $1183.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.13% or 0.08 to hit $60.32 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $64.63 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.05% to 0.7727, while AUD/JPY fell 0.03% to 95.37.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.18% at 95.41.
