Northern Tier Energy LP, a downstream energy company, engages in refining, retail, and logistics operations in the United States. The company operates through two segments, refining and retail. The Retail segment operates convenience stores under the SuperAmerica brand name, which sell gasoline, and diesel fuel; and merchandise products, such as prepared foods, beverages, and non-food items. As of December 31, 2016, it operated approximately 170 convenience stores, as well as supported approximately 115 franchised convenience stores primarily in Minnesota and Wisconsin. This segment also owns and operates SuperMom’s bakery, which prepares and distributes baked goods and other prepared food items for other third parties.
