Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Tobacco, Technology Hardware & Equipment and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors led shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.20%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were CRH PLC (LON:CRH), which rose 1.70% or 43.00 points to trade at 2580.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) added 1.67% or 125.00 points to end at 7590.00 and Sports Direct International PLC (LON:SPD) was up 1.50% or 4.900 points to 332.300 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS), which fell 3.52% or 7.200 points to trade at 197.100 at the close. Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) declined 2.18% or 6.80 points to end at 305.60 and Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) was down 2.13% or 1.30 points to 59.65.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1200 to 958 and 423 ended unchanged.

Gold for December delivery was up 0.21% or 2.80 to $1330.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.31% or 1.02 to hit $45.17 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.49% or 0.70 to trade at $47.53 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.14% to 1.3313, while EUR/GBP fell 0.29% to 0.8376.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.13% at 95.75.
