Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Tobacco, General Retailers and Chemicals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.11%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which rose 3.10% or 45.000 points to trade at 1495.000 at the close. Meanwhile, Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) added 2.91% or 26.00 points to end at 919.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 2.82% or 30.00 points to 1094.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which fell 2.85% or 137.00 points to trade at 4666.00 at the close. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 2.80% or 55.00 points to end at 1907.00 and InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) was down 2.02% or 65.00 points to 3160.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1145 to 1126 and 459 ended unchanged.
Shares in Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 2.82% or 30.00 to 1094.00.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.17% or 2.15 to $1265.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.08% or 0.04 to hit $50.67 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.51% or 0.26 to trade at $51.64 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.36% to 1.2210, while EUR/GBP fell 0.22% to 0.8899.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.47% at 98.75.
