Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Technology Hardware & Equipment, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Food & Drug Retailers sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.60%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 6.10% or 99.00 points to trade at 1723.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) added 5.42% or 11.15 points to end at 217.00 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 5.33% or 55.000 points to 1087.000 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which fell 6.68% or 78.50 points to trade at 1096.50 at the close. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) declined 5.45% or 15.40 points to end at 267.40 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was down 4.96% or 35.00 points to 671.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1420 to 895 and 424 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) rose to 52-week highs; up 5.42% or 11.15 to 217.00.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.19% or 2.30 to $1224.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 4.78% or 2.07 to hit $45.39 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 4.39% or 1.95 to trade at $46.38 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.61% to 1.2420, while EUR/GBP rose 0.49% to 0.8636.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.17% at 100.20.
