Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Food & Drug Retailers and Electrical sectors led shares higher.

At the close in London, the FTSE 100 added 0.23%.

The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were SKY PLC (LONDON:SKYB), which rose 4.08% or 44.00 points to trade at 1122.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Meggitt PLC (LONDON:MGGT) added 3.93% or 18.50 points to end at 489.00 and Tesco (LONDON:TSCO) was up 1.86% or 3.95 points to 216.45 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were TUI AG (LONDON:TUIT), which fell 1.93% or 21.00 points to trade at 1066.00 at the close. GKN (LONDON:GKN) declined 1.85% or 6.00 points to end at 318.50 and Johnson Matthey (LONDON:JMAT) was down 1.80% or 55.00 points to 2995.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1323 to 1233 and 511 ended unchanged.

Shares in SKY PLC (LONDON:SKYB) rose to all time highs; up 4.08% or 44.00 to 1122.00.

Gold for August delivery was down 0.06% or 0.70 to $1154.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.25% or 0.65 to hit $52.85 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.67% or 0.39 to trade at $58.54 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.67% to 1.5586, while EUR/GBP fell 0.57% to 0.7062.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.08% at 96.85.
