Investing.com – Taiwan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Oil, Gas & Electricity, Biotech & Medical Care and Trading & Consumer Goods sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted added 1.22% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Genmont Biotec (TW:3164), which rose 9.98% or 2.55 points to trade at 28.10 at the close. Meanwhile, Gmt (TW:8081) added 9.97% or 5.80 points to end at 64.00 and Zinwell (TW:2485) was up 9.96% or 5.30 points to 58.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tpk Holding (TW:3673), which fell 5.75% or 4.30 points to trade at 70.50 at the close. Long Da (TW:5519) declined 3.76% or 0.50 points to end at 12.80 and Mosel (TW:2342) was down 3.28% or 0.10 points to 2.95.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Taiwan Stock Exchange by 554 to 193 and 103 ended unchanged.
Shares in Zinwell (TW:2485) rose to 3-years highs; up 9.96% or 5.30 to 58.50.
Crude oil for March delivery was up 1.60% or 0.49 to $31.15 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 0.74% or 0.26 to hit $34.76 a barrel, while the April Gold contract fell 0.19% or 2.30 to trade at $1209.10 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.67% to 33.273, while TWD/CNY unchanged 0.00% to 0.1957.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.15% at 96.73.
