Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Steel, Paper & Pulp and Fishery sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.06% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Yahoo Japan Corp. (TOKYO:4689), which rose 11.65% or 58.0 points to trade at 556.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:3865) added 4.92% or 32.0 points to end at 683.0 and Toshiba Corp. (TOKYO:6502) was up 4.81% or 20.0 points to 435.7 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kyowa Hakko Kirin Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:4151), which fell 4.33% or 71.0 points to trade at 1569.0 at the close. Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:9062) declined 3.10% or 22.0 points to end at 687.0 and NKSJ Holdings, Inc. (TOKYO:8630) was down 2.79% or 130.0 points to 4530.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1047 to 835 and 1 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 2.50% to 18.47.
Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.77% or 0.45 to $58.12 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.58% or 0.36 to hit $62.95 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.04% or 0.50 to trade at $1189.30 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.01% to 123.94, while EUR/JPY fell 0.14% to 135.54.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.06% at 97.19.
