Investing.com – France stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Financials, Gas & Water and General Financial sectors led shares higher while losses in the Consumer Goods, Utilities and Basic Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 rose 0.00% to hit a new 52-week high, while the SBF 120 index lost 0.07%.
The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Accor SA (PA:ACCP), which rose 2.27% or 0.83 points to trade at 37.41 at the close. Meanwhile, BNP Paribas SA (PA:BNPP) added 1.42% or 0.88 points to end at 62.80 and AXA SA (PA:AXAF) was up 1.17% or 0.28 points to 24.71 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Valeo SA (PA:VLOF), which fell 2.35% or 1.31 points to trade at 54.39 at the close. Compagnie Generale des Etablissements Michelin SCA (PA:MICP) declined 2.30% or 2.45 points to end at 104.00 and Kering SA (PA:PRTP) was down 1.33% or 2.85 points to 211.30.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were Ipsen (PA:IPN) which rose 2.99% to 70.93, Genfit (PA:GNFT) which was up 2.46% to settle at 22.490 and Accor SA (PA:ACCP) which gained 2.27% to close at 37.41.
The worst performers were CGG SA (PA:GEPH) which was down 2.92% to 14.3200 in late trade, Valeo SA (PA:VLOF) which lost 2.35% to settle at 54.39 and Compagnie Generale des Etablissements Michelin SCA (PA:MICP) which was down 2.30% to 104.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 310 to 268 and 101 ended unchanged.
Shares in BNP Paribas SA (PA:BNPP) rose to 5-year highs; rising 1.42% or 0.88 to 62.80. Shares in AXA SA (PA:AXAF) rose to 52-week highs; up 1.17% or 0.28 to 24.71. Shares in Ipsen (PA:IPN) rose to all time highs; up 2.99% or 2.06 to 70.93.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was down 4.47% to 16.08.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.45% or 5.25 to $1167.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.53% or 0.80 to hit $53.13 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.50% or 0.83 to trade at $56.30 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.69% to 1.0478, while EUR/GBP fell 0.01% to 0.8502.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.67% at 102.55.
