Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Energy, Industrials and Clean Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 1.11%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Alamos Gold Inc (TO:AGI), which rose 11.29% or 0.55 points to trade at 5.42 at the close. Meanwhile, B2Gold Corp . (TO:BTO) added 11.11% or 0.170 points to end at 1.700 and IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) was up 7.86% or 0.18 points to 2.47 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE), which fell 14.97% or 1.25 points to trade at 7.10 at the close. Paramount Resources Ltd . (TO:POU) declined 11.92% or 1.67 points to end at 12.34 and Pacific Rubiales Energy Corp . (TO:PRE) was down 9.05% or 0.37 points to 3.72.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 824 to 529 and 194 ended unchanged.
Shares in Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE) fell to 5-year lows; down 14.97% or 1.25 to 7.10. Shares in Paramount Resources Ltd. (TO:POU) fell to 5-year lows; down 11.92% or 1.67 to 12.34.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.71% to 17.89 a new 6-months high.
Gold for December delivery was up 1.48% or 16.50 to $1133.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 5.09% or 2.19 to hit $40.92 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 4.02% or 1.96 to trade at $46.85 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.46% to 0.7624, while CAD/EUR fell 1.31% to 0.6855.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.57% at 96.44.
