Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Mining, Materials and Energy sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 1.00%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers Inc . (TO:RBA), which rose 5.55% or 2.090 points to trade at 39.750 at the close. Meanwhile, Dorel Industries Inc (TO:DIIb) added 3.97% or 1.20 points to end at 31.46 and Performance Sports Group Ltd (TO:PSG) was up 3.81% or 0.17 points to 4.63 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM), which fell 14.29% or 1.33 points to trade at 7.98 at the close. Teck Resources Ltd (TO:TCKb) declined 11.46% or 1.55 points to end at 11.98 and HudBay Minerals Inc. (TO:HBM) was down 9.64% or 0.51 points to 4.78.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 534 to 289 and 84 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 29.25% to 18.03.
Gold for June delivery was down 2.25% or 29.15 to $1264.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 2.89% or 1.29 to hit $43.37 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 4.01% or 1.82 to trade at $43.55 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.31% to 0.7722, while CAD/EUR fell 0.16% to 0.6783.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.30% at 94.11.
