Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mining, IT and Energy sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.28%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG), which rose 6.68% or 1.610 points to trade at 25.710 at the close. Meanwhile, Kinross Gold Corporation (TO:K) added 5.91% or 0.41 points to end at 7.35 and Novagold Resources Inc . (TO:NG) was up 4.95% or 0.43 points to 9.12 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were MEG Energy Corp (TO:MEG), which fell 7.85% or 0.54 points to trade at 6.34 at the close. Alacer Gold Corp (TO:ASR) declined 7.42% or 0.270 points to end at 3.370 and Enerplus Corporation (TO:ERF) was down 5.58% or 0.48 points to 8.12.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 678 to 488 and 119 ended unchanged.
Shares in Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG) rose to all time highs; up 6.68% or 1.610 to 25.710. Shares in Kinross Gold Corporation (TO:K) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 5.91% or 0.41 to 7.35. Shares in Novagold Resources Inc. (TO:NG) rose to 3-years highs; rising 4.95% or 0.43 to 9.12.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 6.18% to 15.30.
Gold for August delivery was up 1.47% or 19.75 to $1358.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 4.41% or 2.16 to hit $46.83 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 3.85% or 1.93 to trade at $48.17 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 1.10% to 0.7699, while CAD/EUR fell 0.37% to 0.6952.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.69% at 96.27.
