Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Materials, Healthcare and REITs sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.13%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aecon Group Inc . (TO:ARE), which rose 5.48% or 0.81 points to trade at 15.58 at the close. Meanwhile, HudBay Minerals Inc. (TO:HBM) added 5.10% or 0.45 points to end at 9.28 and Dominion Diamond Corp (TO:DDC) was up 3.58% or 0.42 points to 12.16 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kinross Gold Corporation (TO:K), which fell 8.19% or 0.38 points to trade at 4.26 at the close. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) declined 8.08% or 0.97 points to end at 11.04 and Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG) was down 7.95% or 1.620 points to 18.760.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 607 to 560 and 133 ended unchanged.
Shares in HudBay Minerals Inc. (TO:HBM) rose to 52-week highs; rising 5.10% or 0.45 to 9.28.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.77% to 14.37.
Gold for December delivery was down 1.84% or 22.25 to $1188.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.10% or 0.05 to hit $47.98 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.35% or 0.17 to trade at $48.95 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.39% to 0.7411, while CAD/EUR rose 0.27% to 0.7021.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.62% at 101.72.
