Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, IT and Energy sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.13% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Semafo Inc . (TSX:SMF), which rose 13.09% or 0.53 points to trade at 4.58 at the close. Meanwhile, Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD) added 11.93% or 0.60 points to end at 5.63 and IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) was up 9.50% or 0.320 points to 3.690 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB), which fell 6.13% or 0.63 points to trade at 9.64 at the close. Enbridge Inc. (TSX:ENB) declined 4.70% or 2.34 points to end at 47.42 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) was down 4.59% or 2.500 points to 51.980.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 607 to 454 and 104 ended unchanged.
Shares in Semafo Inc. (TSX:SMF) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 13.09% or 0.53 to 4.58.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 25.60% to 16.34.
Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.45% or 19.05 to $1330.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.20% or 0.64 to hit $52.86 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.13% or 0.08 to trade at $60.88 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.03% to 0.7440, while CAD/EUR fell 0.03% to 0.6617.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.53% at 97.148.
