Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Energy and Utilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.77%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bankers Petroleum Ltd. (TO:BNK), which rose 6.42% or 0.190 points to trade at 3.150 at the close. Meanwhile, Trican Well Service Ltd. (TO:TCW) added 5.22% or 0.21 points to end at 4.23 and OceanaGold Corporation (TO:OGC) was up 5.21% or 0.150 points to 3.030 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were BlackBerry Ltd (TO:BB), which fell 3.89% or 0.44 points to trade at 10.88 at the close. Osisko Gold Ro (TO:OR) declined 3.88% or 0.67 points to end at 16.60 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) was down 3.21% or 0.21 points to 6.33.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 725 to 667 and 209 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 9.40% to 12.82.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.56% or 6.60 to $1177.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.22% or 0.73 to hit $61.12 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.94% or 1.23 to trade at $64.57 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.16% to 0.8111, while CAD/EUR rose 1.34% to 0.7260.
The US Dollar Index was up 1.14% at 95.60.
