Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrials, IT and Healthcare sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.58%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Pacific Rubiales Energy Corp. (TO:PRE), which rose 7.01% or 0.33 points to trade at 5.04 at the close. Meanwhile, Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited (TO:FFH) added 5.82% or 35.83 points to end at 651.71 and Firstservice Corp (TO:FSV) was up 5.13% or 1.78 points to 36.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Athabasca Oil Corp (TO:ATH), which fell 4.90% or 0.10 points to trade at 1.94 at the close. Novagold Resources Inc. (TO:NG) declined 4.90% or 0.21 points to end at 4.08 and Canadian Energy Services & Technology Corp (TO:CEU) was down 4.86% or 0.35 points to 6.85.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 716 to 707 and 168 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.62% to 13.05.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.32% or 3.70 to $1165.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.75% or 0.42 to hit $56.53 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.31% or 0.19 to trade at $61.82 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.34% to 0.7970, while CAD/EUR rose 0.06% to 0.7190.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.20% at 96.28.
