Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Materials and Energy sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.19%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Yamana Gold Inc (TO:YRI), which rose 11.79% or 0.29 points to trade at 2.75 at the close. Meanwhile, Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE) added 11.74% or 0.62 points to end at 5.90 and Kinross Gold Corporation (TO:K) was up 10.73% or 0.25 points to 2.58 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were TransAlta Corp (TO:TA), which fell 6.38% or 0.38 points to trade at 5.58 at the close. Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) declined 4.84% or 0.06 points to end at 1.18 and Air Canada (TO:AC) was down 4.13% or 0.450 points to 10.450.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 704 to 643 and 194 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.06% to 18.13.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.79% or 8.40 to $1075.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.74% or 1.15 to hit $42.90 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 2.86% or 1.28 to trade at $46.11 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.43% to 0.7514, while CAD/EUR rose 0.37% to 0.7060.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.15% at 99.68.
