Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Real Estate and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 2.82%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3), which rose 3.13% or 0.50 points to trade at 16.46 at the close. Meanwhile, Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3) added 0.29% or 0.040 points to end at 13.920 and Ambev SA (SA:ABEV3) was down 0.16% or 0.03 points to 18.48 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Vale SA (SA:VALE5), which fell 8.96% or 1.20 points to trade at 12.20 at the close. Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) declined 8.79% or 0.71 points to end at 7.37 and Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4) was down 8.40% or 0.76 points to 8.29.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 218 to 69 and 20 ended unchanged.
Shares in Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3) rose to 52-week highs; up 0.29% or 0.040 to 13.920.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 6.19% to 42.22.
Gold for August delivery was up 4.56% or 57.55 to $1320.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 5.09% or 2.55 to hit $47.56 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 4.13% or 5.90 to trade at $136.98 .
USD/BRL was up 1.13% to 3.3762, while EUR/BRL fell 1.41% to 3.7482.
The US Dollar Index was up 2.57% at 95.73.
