Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 2.58% to hit a new 5-year low.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were JBS SA (SA:JBSS3), which rose 5.77% or 0.60 points to trade at 11.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Oi SA (SA:OIBR3) added 3.66% or 0.09 points to end at 2.55 and Raia Drogasil SA (SA:RADL3) was up 1.29% or 0.480 points to 37.620 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3), which fell 12.84% or 0.67 points to trade at 4.55 at the close. Cia de Saneamento Basico do Estado (SA:SBSP3) declined 6.37% or 1.13 points to end at 16.62 and Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4) was down 6.33% or 0.28 points to 4.14.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 229 to 71 and 5 ended unchanged.
Shares in ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3) fell to 5-year lows; down 12.84% or 0.67 to 4.55. Shares in Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4) fell to 5-year lows; falling 6.33% or 0.28 to 4.14.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 3.90% to 47.20.
Gold for February delivery was up 1.55% or 16.90 to $1108.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 2.08% or 0.70 to hit $33.27 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 1.21% or 1.45 to trade at $118.17 .
USD/BRL was up 0.49% to 4.0445, while EUR/BRL rose 1.90% to 4.4216.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.97% at 98.32.
