Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 2.00% to hit a new 6-months high.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5), which rose 11.43% or 1.44 points to trade at 14.04 at the close. Meanwhile, Vale SA (SA:VALE3) added 9.40% or 2.13 points to end at 24.78 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) was up 7.31% or 0.59 points to 8.66 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were PDG Realty SA (SA:PDGR3), which fell 3.85% or 0.020 points to trade at 0.500 at the close. Even Construtora e Incorporadora SA (SA:EVEN3) declined 2.77% or 0.13 points to end at 4.56 and CETIP SA - Mercados Organizados (SA:CTIP3) was down 2.52% or 0.87 points to 33.68.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 169 to 71 and 6 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.49% to 32.72.
Gold for June delivery was up 1.12% or 13.20 to $1187.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.33% or 0.20 to hit $58.95 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 0.78% or 1.05 to trade at $133.35 .
USD/BRL was up 2.37% to 3.0863, while EUR/BRL rose 3.84% to 3.4402.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.22% at 95.59.
