Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Electric Power and Industrials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 0.11%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which rose 10.04% or 0.25 points to trade at 2.74 at the close. Meanwhile, Vale SA (SA:VALE3) added 5.39% or 0.89 points to end at 17.40 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) was up 5.37% or 0.55 points to 10.80 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Natura Cosmeticos SA (SA:NATU3), which fell 2.06% or 0.58 points to trade at 27.54 at the close. Banco do Brasil SA (SA:BBAS3) declined 1.87% or 0.40 points to end at 20.95 and Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA:PCAR4) was down 1.44% or 0.81 points to 55.25.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 206 to 118 and 22 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.04% to 33.00.
Gold for August delivery was up 0.96% or 12.65 to $1331.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.60% or 1.19 to hit $44.56 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract rose 0.03% or 0.05 to trade at $147.32 .
USD/BRL was up 0.55% to 3.2803, while EUR/BRL rose 0.72% to 3.6163.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.23% at 96.94.
