By Marcy Kreiter - Volkswagen Saturday recalled 189,490 2009-14 Tiguan sport-utility vehicles because of a problem with the fuel system. That follows Friday's recall of 18,500 2009 Routans because of an ignition switch problem.
The Tiguan recall involves a stalling issue, the result of bubbles forming in the fuel system in vehicles when winter fuel blends are used in warmer temperatures, reducing fuel pump performance and pressure, and leading to stalls. Fixing the problem involves installation of revised electronic control module software, the New York Times reported. Some 151,389 Tiguans were sold in the United States and 38,101 in Canada.
The Routan recall involves a key fob problem. VW said the engine can shut off if the key fob hangs up between "on" and "ACC" as a result of harsh roadway conditions or unintended driver interaction with the key fob. VW said it would replace the WIN Module Detent Ring on affected vehicles.
VW said no accidents or injuries were reported as a result of either problem.
