Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Technology Hardware & Equipment and Mining sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.86%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG), which rose 1.60% or 20.00 points to trade at 1271.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) added 1.48% or 6.20 points to end at 424.20 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) was up 1.23% or 75.00 points to 6170.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which fell 6.85% or 42.30 points to trade at 575.00 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 4.60% or 19.60 points to end at 406.10 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was down 4.20% or 5.7500 points to 131.1000.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1261 to 766 and 457 ended unchanged.
Gold for June delivery was down 0.37% or 4.75 to $1270.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.61% or 0.28 to hit $45.95 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.07% or 0.51 to trade at $47.09 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.04% to 1.4453, while EUR/GBP fell 0.46% to 0.7873.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.31% at 94.09.
