Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Forestry & Paper, Oil & Gas Producers and Tobacco sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.27%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN), which rose 7.59% or 34.850 points to trade at 493.900 at the close. Meanwhile, Sports Direct International PLC (LON:SPD) added 5.88% or 23.600 points to end at 425.100 and GKN PLC (LON:GKN) was up 3.69% or 10.40 points to 292.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI), which fell 5.27% or 73.00 points to trade at 1312.00 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 4.28% or 23.00 points to end at 514.50 and J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) was down 2.95% or 8.300 points to 273.200.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1324 to 804 and 444 ended unchanged.
Gold for April delivery was down 1.07% or 13.50 to $1251.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $40.20 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.99% or 0.41 to trade at $41.13 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.06% to 1.4489, while EUR/GBP fell 0.46% to 0.7779.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.31% at 95.06.
