Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Technology Hardware & Equipment, Forestry & Paper and Food & Drug Retailers sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 fell 1.40%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Randgold Resources Ltd (LONDON:RRS), which rose 5.42% or 214.00 points to trade at 4166.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Babcock International Group PLC (LONDON:BAB) added 1.53% or 15.00 points to end at 998.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LONDON:FRES) was up 1.30% or 8.50 points to 661.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Glencore PLC (LONDON:GLEN), which fell 5.65% or 10.80 points to trade at 180.20 at the close. ARM Holdings PLC (LONDON:ARM) declined 4.53% or 43.50 points to end at 916.00 and International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (LONDON:ICAG) was down 4.37% or 24.00 points to 525.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 2134 to 504 and 415 ended unchanged.
Shares in Glencore PLC (LONDON:GLEN) fell to all time lows; down 5.65% or 10.80 to 180.20.
Gold for December delivery was up 1.35% or 15.00 to $1122.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.14% or 0.06 to hit $43.14 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.48% or 0.24 to trade at $49.95 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.45% to 1.5641, while EUR/GBP rose 0.97% to 0.7161.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.24% at 96.03.
