Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 3.12%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which rose 7.81% or 96.00 points to trade at 1325.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) added 7.61% or 4.9500 points to end at 70.0000 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) was up 7.02% or 15.600 points to 237.700 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which fell 1.44% or 95.00 points to trade at 6515.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 0.24% or 3.00 points to end at 1224.00 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) was up 0.73% or 25.00 points to 3427.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1781 to 373 and 384 ended unchanged.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.45% or 5.85 to $1288.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.74% or 1.33 to hit $49.89 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.81% or 1.38 to trade at $50.55 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 2.19% to 1.4674, while EUR/GBP fell 1.85% to 0.7708.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.58% at 93.75.
