Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Automobiles & Parts sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.78%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which rose 6.52% or 8.3500 points to trade at 136.5000 at the close. Meanwhile, Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 6.39% or 25.20 points to end at 419.70 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 5.25% or 31.50 points to 631.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB), which fell 1.56% or 61.00 points to trade at 3847.00 at the close. Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) declined 1.39% or 2.40 points to end at 170.70 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was down 1.05% or 23.00 points to 2166.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1377 to 759 and 374 ended unchanged.
Gold for August delivery was down 0.10% or 1.35 to $1286.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.45% or 0.22 to hit $48.27 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.06% or 0.53 to trade at $49.30 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.47% to 1.4181, while EUR/GBP fell 0.13% to 0.7929.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.24% at 94.80.
