Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Travel & Leisure and Banking sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.77%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which rose 5.62% or 12.30 points to trade at 231.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) added 4.42% or 9.600 points to end at 227.000 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) was up 3.87% or 16.80 points to 450.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which fell 7.91% or 470.00 points to trade at 5470.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 5.59% or 66.00 points to end at 1114.00 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was down 5.20% or 37.50 points to 683.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1084 to 864 and 393 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was down 3.13% or 36.45 to $1127.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.61% or 0.31 to hit $50.73 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.30% or 0.16 to trade at $53.74 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.22% to 1.2412, while EUR/GBP fell 0.13% to 0.8370.
The US Dollar Index was up 1.28% at 103.34.
