Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Gas & Water and Machinery sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 2.76%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Shiseido Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:4911), which rose 3.37% or 83.0 points to trade at 2544.5 at the close. Meanwhile, Aeon Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:8267) added 2.76% or 47.5 points to end at 1766.5 and Seven & i Holdings Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:3382) was up 2.52% or 130.0 points to 5288.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were JTEKT Corp. (TOKYO:6473), which fell 10.44% or 192.0 points to trade at 1647.0 at the close. NSK Ltd. (TOKYO:6471) declined 9.19% or 121.0 points to end at 1195.0 and Okuma Corp. (TOKYO:6103) was down 9.13% or 77.0 points to 766.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1665 to 211.
Shares in NSK Ltd. (TOKYO:6471) fell to 52-week lows; falling 9.19% or 121.0 to 1195.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 5.27% to 30.36.
Crude oil for November delivery was up 0.70% or 0.31 to $44.79 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in November rose 0.68% or 0.33 to hit $48.08 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.36% or 4.10 to trade at $1135.60 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.19% to 120.04, while EUR/JPY rose 0.03% to 134.55.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.22% at 96.18.
