Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Transportation Equipment and Power sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 1.55%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were DOWA Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:5714), which rose 4.64% or 30.0 points to trade at 677.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Shinsei Bank, Ltd. (T:8303) added 3.61% or 5.5 points to end at 158.0 and SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) was up 3.55% or 28.0 points to 817.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sharp Corp. (T:6753), which fell 6.32% or 9.0 points to trade at 133.5 at the close. Olympus Corp. (T:7733) declined 5.74% or 195.0 points to end at 3200.0 and Softbank Corp. (T:9984) was down 4.56% or 308.5 points to 6451.1.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1666 to 317 and 74 ended unchanged.
Shares in Olympus Corp. (T:7733) fell to 52-week lows; down 5.74% or 195.0 to 3200.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 8.71% to 22.22.
Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.19% or 0.09 to $46.88 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.16% or 0.08 to hit $49.77 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.60% or 8.05 to trade at $1356.85 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.44% to 99.84, while EUR/JPY fell 0.23% to 112.95.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.23% at 94.47.
