Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Insurance and Mining sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.61%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043), which rose 7.10% or 26.0 points to trade at 392.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:9501) added 5.67% or 20.0 points to end at 372.5 and Uny Group Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:8270) was up 4.38% or 46.0 points to 1096.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were SUMCO Corp. (T:3436), which fell 6.01% or 55.0 points to trade at 860.0 at the close. NTN Corp. (T:6472) declined 5.85% or 21.0 points to end at 338.0 and Hino Motors, Ltd. (T:7205) was down 4.80% or 53.0 points to 1051.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1257 to 678 and 122 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.45% to 22.33.
Crude oil for October delivery was down 1.03% or 0.49 to $46.92 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.81% or 0.40 to hit $48.76 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.03% or 0.45 to trade at $1342.95 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.26% to 100.07, while EUR/JPY fell 0.15% to 113.39.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.14% at 94.39.
