Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Paper & Pulp, Insurance and Warehousing sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.30%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sharp Corp. (T:6753), which rose 10.33% or 11.0 points to trade at 117.5 at the close. Meanwhile, Softbank Corp. (T:9984) added 7.13% or 453.0 points to end at 6803.1 and The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. (T:5101) was up 6.92% or 100.0 points to 1546.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co., Ltd. (T:3865), which fell 8.95% or 68.0 points to trade at 692.0 at the close. Citizen Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:7762) declined 8.77% or 49.0 points to end at 510.0 and MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings (T:8725) was down 5.47% or 166.5 points to 2877.5.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1308 to 602 and 147 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 4.42% to 19.85.
Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.79% or 0.35 to $44.84 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.64% or 0.30 to hit $47.27 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.12% or 1.55 to trade at $1344.75 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.12% to 101.15, while EUR/JPY fell 0.04% to 112.94.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.05% at 95.63.
