Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Marine Transport, Services and Food sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.95% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Pioneer Corp. (T:6773), which rose 5.59% or 10.0 points to trade at 189.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (T:7912) added 4.37% or 52.0 points to end at 1242.0 and Komatsu Ltd. (T:6301) was up 4.11% or 78.0 points to 1977.5 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (T:3863), which fell 2.23% or 41.0 points to trade at 1799.0 at the close. Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043) declined 2.05% or 6.0 points to end at 286.0 and Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co., Ltd. (T:3865) was down 1.97% or 15.0 points to 748.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1168 to 731 and 157 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.87% to 28.31.
Crude oil for August delivery was up 1.39% or 0.62 to $45.37 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 1.12% or 0.52 to hit $46.78 a barrel, while the August Gold contract fell 0.76% or 10.25 to trade at $1333.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.94% to 105.48, while EUR/JPY rose 1.11% to 117.17.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.06% at 96.30.
