Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Retail, Marine Transport and Fishery sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.68%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (T:4506), which rose 6.28% or 111.0 points to trade at 1878.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043) added 5.38% or 15.0 points to end at 294.0 and Konami Corp. (T:9766) was up 4.88% or 190.0 points to 4085.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Furukawa Co., Ltd. (T:5715), which fell 4.20% or 6.0 points to trade at 137.0 at the close. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (T:9104) declined 2.31% or 5.0 points to end at 211.0 and Showa Denko K.K. (T:4004) was down 2.19% or 21.0 points to 940.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1433 to 481 and 128 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 6.91% to 27.62.
Crude oil for August delivery was up 0.37% or 0.18 to $48.51 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.52% or 0.26 to hit $49.97 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 1.03% or 13.65 to trade at $1334.25 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.44% to 102.77, while EUR/JPY fell 0.52% to 113.96.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.08% at 96.03.
