Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Pharmaceutical Industry, Trading and Services sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.38%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:8233), which rose 4.18% or 47.0 points to trade at 1171.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Toho Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:9602) added 3.56% or 105.0 points to end at 3055.0 and Mitsumi Electric Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:6767) was up 3.28% or 27.0 points to 851.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were NTN Corp. (TOKYO:6472), which fell 3.52% or 26.0 points to trade at 712.0 at the close. NSK Ltd. (TOKYO:6471) declined 2.57% or 45.0 points to end at 1703.0 and Itochu Corp. (TOKYO:8001) was down 2.42% or 37.0 points to 1494.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1197 to 685.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 6.46% to 17.96.
Crude oil for August delivery was up 0.14% or 0.07 to $53.12 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $58.69 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.03% or 0.30 to trade at $1153.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.06% to 123.47, while EUR/JPY rose 0.02% to 135.88.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.01% at 96.81.
