Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Mining, Transportation Equipment and Electrical/Machinery sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.37%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which rose 11.38% or 27.3 points to trade at 267.1 at the close. Meanwhile, Konami Corp. (T:9766) added 6.11% or 240.0 points to end at 4170.0 and Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6770) was up 4.30% or 87.0 points to 2108.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (T:7003), which fell 3.35% or 6.0 points to trade at 173.0 at the close. Hitachi Construction Machinery Co (T:6305) declined 2.92% or 50.0 points to end at 1661.0 and Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:9064) was down 2.77% or 63.0 points to 2214.5.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1004 to 803 and 190 ended unchanged.
Shares in Konami Corp. (T:9766) rose to all time highs; up 6.11% or 240.0 to 4170.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.68% to 25.75 a new 1-month low.
Crude oil for July delivery was down 0.65% or 0.32 to $49.16 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 0.69% or 0.34 to hit $49.25 a barrel, while the June Gold contract rose 0.05% or 0.55 to trade at $1220.95 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.06% to 109.70, while EUR/JPY fell 0.04% to 122.80.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.01% at 95.15.
