Chrysler Recalling More Than 800,000 Vehicles

By Marcy Kreiter - Chrysler Group LLC said Tuesday it could recall 792,300 older model Jeeps because of ignition switch issues. It also said 21,000 new Jeeps, pickups and sedans will be recalled because of problems with shocks and/or struts.

Chrysler said the ignition switch issue involves 2006-07 Jeep Commander and 2005-07 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs. Chrysler said a preliminary investigation indicates the ignition key could be knocked out of the "on" position if it's hit by the driver's knee, producing an engine stall, reduced braking and steering difficulties.

"Chrysler Group is unaware of any related injuries," the company said, adding the recall is being conducted "out of an abundance of caution."

Chrysler said it expects to notify owners by mid-September. The company said it has yet to determine how many of the 792,300 vehicles are affected.

The second recall involves 2014 Ram 1,500 pickups, 2015 Jeep Cherokee SUVs and 2015 Chrysler 200 sedans assembled during a 16-day period that ended June 6.

Chrysler said the shocks and struts used during that period "do not meet the company's quality standards." Chrysler said the components could "break free from their mounts, which could potentially lead to reduced shock damping and possible loss of vehicle control."

Chrysler said no injuries, accidents or complaints have been reported.
