Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 1.41%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3), which rose 4.40% or 0.60 points to trade at 14.25 at the close. Meanwhile, Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) added 2.73% or 0.30 points to end at 11.30 and Equatorial Energia SA (SA:EQTL3) was up 2.21% or 0.95 points to 44.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3), which fell 10.05% or 1.12 points to trade at 10.02 at the close. Vale SA (SA:VALE3) declined 9.77% or 1.65 points to end at 15.23 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) was down 9.01% or 0.21 points to 2.12.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 185 to 132 and 21 ended unchanged.
Shares in Equatorial Energia SA (SA:EQTL3) rose to all time highs; gaining 2.21% or 0.95 to 44.00.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 5.66% to 45.53.
Gold for June delivery was down 2.25% or 29.15 to $1264.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 2.84% or 1.27 to hit $43.39 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 1.66% or 2.06 to trade at $126.53 .
USD/BRL was up 0.49% to 3.5216, while EUR/BRL rose 0.33% to 4.0095.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.30% at 94.11.
