Brazil stocks lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 1.24%

Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Basic Materials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 1.24%.

The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were PDG Realty SA (SA:PDGR3), which rose 2.86% or 0.010 points to trade at 0.360 at the close. Meanwhile, BB Seguridade Participacoes SA (SA:BBSE3) added 2.53% or 0.87 points to end at 35.25 and Lojas Renner SA (SA:LREN3) was up 2.35% or 2.62 points to 114.15 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR4), which fell 4.55% or 0.60 points to trade at 12.60 at the close. Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3) declined 4.38% or 0.64 points to end at 13.98 and Cia Energetica de Minas Gerais (SA:CMIG4) was down 4.15% or 0.50 points to 11.54.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 178 to 110 and 11 ended unchanged.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 5.47% to 29.14.

Gold for August delivery was down 0.04% or 0.50 to $1172.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.05% or 0.63 to hit $59.64 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract rose 0.37% or 0.50 to trade at $134.85 .

USD/BRL was up 0.92% to 3.1271, while EUR/BRL rose 0.90% to 3.5034.

The US Dollar Index was unchanged 0.00% at 95.37.
