Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 0.34%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA:MRVE3), which rose 5.14% or 0.73 points to trade at 14.93 at the close. Meanwhile, Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) added 2.77% or 0.72 points to end at 26.72 and Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5) was up 2.48% or 0.31 points to 12.79 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Cia de Saneamento Basico do Estado (SA:SBSP3), which fell 4.69% or 1.54 points to trade at 31.29 at the close. CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA:CMIG4) declined 4.25% or 0.48 points to end at 10.82 and Cia Paranaense de Energia (SA:CPLE6) was down 3.86% or 1.33 points to 33.16.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 204 to 136 and 27 ended unchanged.
Shares in MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA:MRVE3) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 5.14% or 0.73 to 14.93.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 0.57% to 33.27.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.59% or 7.15 to $1202.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.31% or 0.66 to hit $49.62 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract fell 0.72% or 1.02 to trade at $140.50 .
USD/BRL was up 0.89% to 3.1913, while EUR/BRL rose 1.36% to 3.3793.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.23% at 101.88.
