How to Open a Goldco Gold IRA

Step 1: Fill out the online form to provide Goldco with your contact and identification information. An expert from the company will then contact you to follow up on the details of your intended investment and help you with any questions you might have if you have a rollover.

Step 2: The expert should then send you a comprehensive guide designed by Goldco experts. The guide covers all aspects of gold and silver IRAs and fills up any holes you might have in how that works. Additionally, it provides you with information on investing, which is highly welcome since most people go in blind for their first precious metals IRA.

Step 3: After reading the comprehensive guide, and finally deciding on what you want, you should then speak to the assigned expert to help you set up an account. This is also where you pay for your new account. Before this, however, we would advise speaking to a tax advisor, especially in the case of a rollover. Doing that reduces the risk of taking on tax penalties and covers all your bases with the IRS.

Step 4: The final step is choosing the metals you want after which they are sent to a secure storage facility.

Fees & Commissions

Goldco’s preferred Custodian charges a flat annual account service fee which includes a one-time IRA account set-up fee of $50, as well as a $30 wire fee. Annual maintenance is $100, and storage is $150 for segregated storage or $100 for non-segregated storage.

Fees for gold storage and custodianship can vary depending on the company you select to handle these services (required by the IRS, as all IRA assets must be managed by a custodian). Depending on the Custodian, storage fees can range from $10 to $60 per month, or as a percentage of assets, from 0.35% to 1% annually. Goldco does not charge any storage fees for cash transactions over $25,000.

Goldco Reliability & Security

One of the greatest concerns you should have is whether the company you are looking to make investments in is compliant. Although investing in precious metals means that you can visit and admire your collection, that doesn’t mean that you can keep the metals with you. More importantly, there are specific metals which are approved by the IRS. All the metals sold through Goldco are IRA eligible and its partners for storage are also vetted and compliant.

Final Thoughts on Goldco

Goldco is one of the best precious metals companies in the business. Goldco’s pricing for precious metals is reasonable, and the company also has informative educational resources, fair fees, and helpful, knowledgeable customer service representatives. With its longevity in the industry, Goldco is the gold standard when it comes to precious metal IRAs.

Goldco FAQs

Q: Is Goldco legitimate?
A: Goldco was founded in 2006, and it has maintained a legitimate, reputable business since its inception. The company is credited with an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB). That said, Goldco lacks a presence on many consumer review sites, making it difficult to ascertain the credibility of its ratings. However, the reviews we have come across all point to the strength and reliability of the company.

Q: Do I need an IRA to purchase precious metals?
A: You don’t need to have an IRA to purchase gold, silver, and other precious metals, and you can purchase the metals directly from Goldco and have them delivered to your home. Of course, when you factor in the issue of security, it would be better to have your metals held by legally-compliant custodians. Keep in mind that storage fees apply, should you take the custodial option.

Q: Which offers better returns between gold and silver?
A: Investment is a matter of personal preference. Gold is not necessarily better than silver, as both have their strengths and weaknesses; therefore, you should make your purchase based on your investment needs and goals.

Q: How do I sell the precious metals held in my Goldco IRA?
A: If you wish to liquidate your account, Goldco offers one of the best buyback programs in the industry. The company buys your gold or silver back at the highest price available, saving you from the hassle of finding a buyer on your own.
