(Reuters) - A leader of the right-wing Proud Boys group, Enrique Tarrio, was released from jail on Friday after serving four months and a week for burning a Black Lives Matter banner at a historic African American church in Washington in December 2020.

Tarrio was among a group of Proud Boys who stole the banner during a demonstration in Washington on Dec. 12, 2020. Tarrio then set it on fire, according to comments he made afterward. He pled guilty in July, was sentenced in August and began serving his jail sentence in September.

Tarrio did not take part in the deadly Jan. 6, 2021 riots at the U.S. Capitol. He was arrested when he arrived in Washington two days before the failed bid to prevent Congress' certification of Democrat Joe Biden's November 2020 election win over then-President Donald Trump, a Republican.

The FBI has said his January 2021 arrest was to try to pre-empt the events of Jan. 6 when several other members of the Proud Boys were taken into custody.

Those members of the right-wing group face charges including obstruction of law enforcement, destruction of government property and conspiracy.

Just happens there was a church nearby. Typical Reuters trash piece. blm is despicable. All of their propaganda should be dealt with accordingly. They are a militant wing of the fascist dems, just like antifa. All are traitors to the country.

The USA is full of all kinds of hatred. That’s what you get with a system based on capitalism and greed. Until it implodes, we will be having more noncence like this. I don’t see it going the other way around. A civil war and then the divided states of America is the only outcome. There will be a political division. Racist white people on one end and non racist white people and all the rest on the other end. 2 deferent pasports so you know who you are dealing with. That way, racist white people can openly be racist among each other with no colored people around to go off on. And all the rest will live happily ever after.

Jurjen Visser  well, the last time I checked, they were not holding slaves, beating up white people while in uniform, demolishing white peoples wrights to vote, etc, etc, etc. But maybe I mist a case. So feel free to set an example were the above was the other way around

Jurjen Visser  well maybe divide by 3 then. To me it’s all hatred. And it will only stop with the opposite, namely love. But that ain’t going to happen. So maybe a Israel Palestine solution is the best.

And to be clear on this. It ain’t gonna happen because the only common value in capitalism is ….yes the dollar. Not love. Only cash. This is offcause enough to keep people going if it is all going well. But come bad times and the whole thing will collapse

I think the difference here is that he stole somebody's property and then burned it. If you burn an American flag that is your property, then of course it different. I do share your concern that they probably see things like this as racist, while BLM is one of the most vile racist hate groups in America. However, I'm not too keen on the proud boys either.
