(Reuters) - TikTok said on Saturday it plans to file a lawsuit on Monday against President Donald Trump's executive order prohibiting transactions with the popular short video app and its Chinese parent ByteDance, confirming an earlier Reuters report.

Reuters exclusively reported on Friday that TikTok would challenge Trump's executive order as early as Monday.

TikTok said it had tried to engage with the U.S administration for nearly a year, but faced "a lack of due process" and that the government paid no attention to the facts.

"To ensure that the rule of law is not discarded and that our company and users are treated fairly, we have no choice but to challenge the executive order through the judicial system," the company said in a statement .

TikTok's owner ByteDance issued a separate statement on Sunday saying it will officially file a lawsuit against Trump administration on Monday, Aug 24.

Trump issued an executive order on Aug. 14 that gave ByteDance 90 days to divest the U.S. operations of TikTok. ByteDance has been making progress in talks with potential acquirers, including Microsoft Corp (O:MSFT) and Oracle (N:ORCL). Some of ByteDance's U.S. investors could also join the winning bid.

While TikTok is best known for its anodyne videos of people dancing and going viral among teenagers, U.S. officials have expressed concerns that information on users could be passed on to China's government.

Everyone knows the Chinese are dying to get information on a 13 year olds 8th grade geography test! This is nothing more than an attack on China with BS reasons.
I don’t have tiktok in my phone, don’t care about it but I don’t thing anyone should be deprived from tiktoking 24/7 if they want to lol
*think
The world can prosper without tiktok.
whats your point? the world can also profit without facebook, or the entire US, or China altogether. Trump targeting private corporations without due process to get back at the Chinese government is wrong and bad for business
I like the idea of a SM platform owned by the people. Would be fantastic if they held a dutch auction so people could actually own their data and the profit from all the data mining.
awesome news! tiktok 🦄💎
Imagine what would happen if Tiktok owner sued the Chinese government (I know it's impossible). CEO would be sent to reeducation camps.
This is merely some money hunger American lawyer trying to make a name for themselves. Please tell me why China has not let Google and Facebook operate in their country even though there are differences of views!!!
People who spend 20 hrs a day on tiktok ain't too bright anyway. No one cares if their info get stolen.
You might if they were your children.
🤣
my music is on tiktok 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and all the time.
Speaking of odd things. A woman from Oregon named Jo Rae Perkins is running for the US Senate. She once took a pledge to QAnon and refuses to wear a Covid19 mask and ridicules all who do by calling them out on the street. I know I shouldn’t say this, and I’ll be ostracized for doing so. But I just saw a picture of Jo Rae Perkins, and if anybody should be wearing a mask, it’s her. And I don’t mean a medical mask. I mean a halloween mask to improve on her....how should I put this....absolutely scary mug!
All i can say is, I am happy that I grew up in a time when my cellphone did not control my life. Tik Tok is by far one of the most ridiculous social media platforms out there. I think the world would be ok if Tik Tok did not exist. Lol!
I don't like seafood. So does that mean I should promote a law that takes away another's liberty to enjoy seafood? I throught American was all about the freedom and liberty.
Just cause you do not like it does not mean everyone thinks the same
Until there is a security risk. If you do not believe me, ask all the citizens who crossed the government how their lives are today!
oh snap. let's see if Trump can pay off the judges. the Judicial branch is "not" as corrupt and the Executive and Legislative branches.
All the admin needs to do is prove national security threat. Judicial branch has no authority if so.
