SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Snap Inc (NYSE:SNAP) said it would no longer promote U.S. President Donald Trump's account in Snapchat's Discover section, saying his incendiary comments last week made the account ineligible for the curated section where users explore new content.

"We will not amplify voices who incite racial violence and injustice by giving them free promotion on Discover," the company said in a statement.

"Racial violence and injustice have no place in our society and we stand together with all who seek peace, love, equality, and justice in America."

Shares fell 2.4% after the announcement.

Trump's Snapchat account, which consists mostly of campaign content and does not contain the informal rhetoric he regularly uses on his favored platform Twitter, will remain public and accessible to people who follow it or search for it, Snap said.

Democratic rival Joe Biden, who is seeking to oust Trump in the November presidential election, quickly capitalized on the move. In a video posted to Snapchat, he said, grinning, that he was proud to run for president "and still be on Snapchat."

In a statement, Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale accused Snap of trying to rig the election by promoting Biden while suppressing Trump's content. He said Snap promoted "extreme left riot videos" and encouraged users to "destroy America".

Snap said the Discover section features voices across the political spectrum, including both Republicans and Democrats.

Twitter ignited a furor last week by placing labels on several of Trump's tweets that it said violated its rules on misleading information and glorifying violence, including one which used the racially charged phrase "when the looting starts, the shooting starts."

Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) declined to take any action on the same posts, prompting an employee protest on Monday.

Snap did not specify which of Trump's comments it considered inciteful, but Chief Executive Evan Spiegel told staffers in a memo on Sunday he would "walk the talk" on divisive content and the "legacy of racial violence and injustice in America."

He noted that the Discover section is "a curated platform, where we decide what we promote."

The company said its decision to remove the president's content from Discover was made over the weekend.

Looting and shooting has some strong historical references; 1960s Birmingham, Al and 1980 Miami where police officials used the phrase when speaking about black protesters.
can sonebody explain to me what is "racially charged" in the statement when the looting starts, the shooting will start? i certainly want protection from looters regardless of their skin color
no... use common sense
Our President is accused of racism no matter what he does. We need law and order. He isnt the one who incites this craziness. Its the crazy media and people like the former president who incite baseless fear.
".... the former president who incite baseless fear."  - I see, it's still Obama's fault is it?
well I guess his work lately was pulling every good jobs other president do and 106k lives were too much to say that he is doing much good work for the country i don't know much but all he is doing is making american an egosentrical nation and really, divide the union into people who vote for him or not
You really dont know much if you don’t understand all he has accomplished for all Americans. The previous president did no good - just stirred things up.
"you don’t understand all he has accomplished for all Americans. The previous president did no good" --- ahh yes, let's see what Trump "accomplsihed" so far: >100k americans dead from pandemic 20 million americans out of work race riots let's see what no good did the previous persident did: dead from pandemic:  I think 2 people died from West Nile Virus 8 straight years of GDP and employment growth no race riots
I think the President's mistake is he talks too much from the hip. But he works hard and accomplish a lot of thing. However, the American people prefer a person with oral skill even though the person didn't do anything. Too bad!
Good that you identify yourself with a person like him. I wonder what you think he has accomplished.Never mind. ''Commonsense is not a gift but a punishment. You have to deal with people who doesn't have it'
I agree. People prefer pretty words over positive action and hard work. President Trump is the best presdent we ever had.
"President Trump is the best presdent we ever had." - I laughed so hard I spitted out my coffee....
Evan stole snapchat(picaboo then) from Reggie. He acts like he has moral.
every one steal in the tech world, you think Bill Gates and Steve Jobs didn't steal technologies from other people/companies?
Snap is loosing money for years. If they can find a way to distract investors from their incompetent, they”ll do it in a heart beat.
so basically they are doing the same distraction techniques as Trump......
the only reason people want trump is cause they care more about their stocks staying inflated than actually seeing the economy improve. whoever gets elected will have to deal with the recession, and likely both are not gonna do a good job because the government is corrupt.
Stocks are the ticket , vote wall donald street
Nope
Clap clap clap! That's what trump deserves
These companies have snoozed people into thinking they're a bastion of democracy while they do the opposite by interfering with the elections and the democratic process of the USA. Somebody should sue them big time.
Trump should b removed in his position, racism, injustice, and inequality destroy relationship amongs people, nation, world ect . Trump must fall, he has no leadership skills he is just a devil himself
lol you are insane to believe that
''Commonsense is not a gift but a punishment. You have to deal with people who doesn't have it'
President Trump called for an end to the nightly Rioting, Looting, Arson, and Assault. The Woke, Politically Correct management at Snap said this statement was "Inciting Racial Violence." To quote Snap on Trump's call for an end to the madness: "Racial violence and injustice have no place in our society and we stand together with all who seek peace, love, equality, and justice in America." LOL, as America Burns.
Corporations are trying to be politacally correct and have no clue what is correct.
Woke snowflakes..
there we go fb &co...left wing terrorism at its best
down 2% on a day when the market is on FIRE! Trumps wins again,,,Snap is for non-voting kids,,,who cares
FB went down by more than $2.00. You cannot read too much into poletical gimmicks. savvy invstors react to financial fundementals than inconsequential comments here and there
The US is so messed up politically because the status wuo of selling our country out for 30 years through 2 bushes a clinton and an obama was disrupted
Trump is as much a continuation of all that. He quickly realized how hard it is to be president, believe that. Obama tried too, and they all fell in line. Now trump is just pulling all stops to look good in time for the election. Looking at his track record, lowering interest rates and tax cuts are short fixes to an economy, the work force is in worse shape than it was before Trump, and same for Obama because the fiat currency/central bank dominance is ruining any tactics either party tries to employ so long as they allow fantasy dollars, i.e. debt/credit to continue to be the productive source of the economy, neither party is at fault, it's a chain of corruption that changes its face to keep people confused of the truth, and to keep the people against each other.
Calling for a crackdown on violent rioters and looters is racist?
Had 500 shares. Dumped them today. Will not touch SNAP stock or the app.
Most teen use it. I guess u r a teen or under 30. Why u invested in a company that hasnt made any profit?
Better sell because they will start tanking. Go buy airline and Biotech stocks. they are relatively at giveaway prices and set to triple by years end. MRNA AZN MERCK lead in coronavirus vaccine and JBLU SAVE LUV Airlines cheap and rocketing
Well I just sold all my 200 shares. I will buy a biotech stock AZN instead. They were one of 5 chosen to lead vaccine by Trump. Shares could tripple in coming months. We need make money and SNAP acting on emotion and self righteousness does not help my portfolio
Left wingers in California think they speak for the county and made themselves judge, jury, and executioner.
Man, in the end, it was the left that refused to accept the results of an election by a factor of a billion
bye snap
Better buy biotech coronavirus vaccine stocks rocketing by yr end MRNA AZN MERCK and cheap airlines Jblu SAVE LUV ALK some at $11 $17 a share already climbing fast
paid stock promoter
Wow...this is stunning. Do they think that responding to violent rioters with force is now a racist tactic? There rioters have killed several innocent people that had nothing to do with the police ****of Mr,. Floyd.
Rise and Unite
lol, oh no...
