Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Monday, as gains in the Utilities, Telecoms and Financials sectors led shares higher while losses in the Technology, Healthcare and Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.97%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.54%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 2.41%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which rose 6.27% or 11.92 points to trade at 201.91 at the close. Meanwhile, Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) added 2.72% or 1.26 points to end at 47.51 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) was up 2.71% or 1.28 points to 48.48 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which fell 4.17% or 5.06 points to trade at 116.36 at the close. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) declined 1.82% or 4.21 points to end at 227.39 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was down 1.47% or 0.89 points to 59.85.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were ViacomCBS Inc (NASDAQ:VIAC) which rose 12.69% to 83.66, Capri Holdings Ltd (NYSE:CPRI) which was up 9.83% to settle at 52.39 and Foot Locker Inc (NYSE:FL) which gained 9.15% to close at 56.88.
The worst performers were Lam Research Corp (NASDAQ:LRCX) which was down 8.23% to 502.61 in late trade, TripAdvisor Inc (NASDAQ:TRIP) which lost 7.53% to settle at 47.62 and Align Technology Inc (NASDAQ:ALGN) which was down 7.53% to 496.07 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Second Sight Medical Products (NASDAQ:EYES) which rose 103.28% to 11.77, Greenwich Lifesciences Inc (NASDAQ:GLSI) which was up 61.74% to settle at 37.20 and Anchiano Therapeutics Ltd (NASDAQ:ANCN) which gained 39.82% to close at 4.670.
The worst performers were Soleno Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:SLNO) which was down 48.70% to 1.380 in late trade, AnaptysBio Inc (NASDAQ:ANAB) which lost 33.80% to settle at 19.51 and Highpeak Energy Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:HPK) which was down 23.55% to 8.28 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1886 to 1161 and 81 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1680 rose and 1643 declined, while 87 ended unchanged.
Shares in ViacomCBS Inc (NASDAQ:VIAC) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 12.69% or 9.42 to 83.66. Shares in Capri Holdings Ltd (NYSE:CPRI) rose to 52-week highs; up 9.83% or 4.69 to 52.39. Shares in Foot Locker Inc (NYSE:FL) rose to 52-week highs; rising 9.15% or 4.77 to 56.88. Shares in Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) rose to all time highs; up 6.27% or 11.92 to 201.91. Shares in Second Sight Medical Products (NASDAQ:EYES) rose to 52-week highs; rising 103.28% or 5.98 to 11.77. Shares in Soleno Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:SLNO) fell to 52-week lows; losing 48.70% or 1.310 to 1.380.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 3.28% to 25.47.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.11% or 1.85 to $1681.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.45% or 0.29 to hit $64.97 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.15% or 0.10 to trade at $68.10 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.06% to 1.1850, while USD/JPY rose 0.08% to 108.95.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.47% at 92.420.
