Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Technology, Industrials and Utilities sectors led shares higher while losses in the Oil & Gas, Telecoms and Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.62%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.22%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.41%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which rose 2.95% or 3.78 points to trade at 132.01 at the close. Meanwhile, Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE:CRM) added 1.94% or 4.39 points to end at 230.86 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was up 0.36% or 0.81 points to 223.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which fell 3.59% or 1.46 points to trade at 39.21 at the close. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) declined 2.88% or 6.55 points to end at 220.76 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) was down 2.35% or 6.03 points to 250.95.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Coty Inc (NYSE:COTY) which rose 7.07% to 7.27, Fortinet Inc (NASDAQ:FTNT) which was up 4.54% to settle at 152.59 and Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which gained 3.82% to close at 147.44.
The worst performers were CarMax Inc (NYSE:KMX) which was down 7.87% to 92.55 in late trade, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:NCLH) which lost 6.38% to settle at 23.20 and Mosaic Co (NYSE:MOS) which was down 5.32% to 21.91 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Ocugen, Inc (NASDAQ:OCGN) which rose 151.73% to 0.7401, Foresight Autonomous Holdings Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:FRSX) which was up 69.89% to settle at 2.990 and Microvision Inc (NASDAQ:MVIS) which gained 57.89% to close at 9.1100.
The worst performers were Soligenix Inc (NASDAQ:SNGX) which was down 50.04% to 1.369 in late trade, China Customer Relations Centers Inc (NASDAQ:CCRC) which lost 45.82% to settle at 3.37 and Venus Concept Inc (NASDAQ:VERO) which was down 24.02% to 1.93 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1804 to 1272 and 92 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1624 rose and 1384 declined, while 61 ended unchanged.
Shares in Fortinet Inc (NASDAQ:FTNT) rose to all time highs; gaining 4.54% or 6.63 to 152.59. Shares in Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) rose to all time highs; up 3.82% or 5.42 to 147.44. Shares in Ocugen, Inc (NASDAQ:OCGN) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 151.73% or 0.4461 to 0.7401. Shares in Foresight Autonomous Holdings Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:FRSX) rose to 52-week highs; up 69.89% or 1.230 to 2.990. Shares in China Customer Relations Centers Inc (NASDAQ:CCRC) fell to all time lows; losing 45.82% or 2.85 to 3.37. Shares in Microvision Inc (NASDAQ:MVIS) rose to 5-year highs; rising 57.89% or 3.3400 to 9.1100. Shares in Venus Concept Inc (NASDAQ:VERO) fell to all time lows; losing 24.02% or 0.61 to 1.93.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.14% to 24.37.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.87% or 16.40 to $1866.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 2.27% or 1.09 to hit $46.88 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.91% or 0.97 to trade at $49.94 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.72% to 1.2154, while USD/JPY rose 0.39% to 103.70.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.72% at 90.595.
