Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Basic Materials and Healthcare sectors led shares higher while losses in the Oil & Gas, Utilities and Consumer Services sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.12%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.06%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.23%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 3.48% or 2.05 points to trade at 60.91 at the close. Meanwhile, Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) added 1.70% or 3.50 points to end at 209.62 and Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) was up 1.65% or 0.82 points to 50.42 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which fell 3.10% or 1.60 points to trade at 50.01 at the close. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) declined 1.60% or 2.87 points to end at 176.73 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) was down 0.94% or 1.15 points to 121.09.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were KLA-Tencor Corporation (NASDAQ:KLAC) which rose 8.83% to 323.89, Lam Research Corp (NASDAQ:LRCX) which was up 7.73% to settle at 573.68 and Applied Materials Inc (NASDAQ:AMAT) which gained 7.39% to close at 113.70.
The worst performers were Molson Coors Brewing Co Class B (NYSE:TAP) which was down 9.72% to 44.22 in late trade, Lumen Technologies Inc (NYSE:LUMN) which lost 7.93% to settle at 11.49 and Tyson Foods Inc (NYSE:TSN) which was down 5.79% to 65.27 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were iFresh Inc (NASDAQ:IFMK) which rose 79.33% to 2.6900, RCM Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:RCMT) which was up 71.27% to settle at 6.320 and Borqs Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:BRQS) which gained 53.22% to close at 2.620.
The worst performers were Tilray Inc (NASDAQ:TLRY) which was down 49.42% to 32.33 in late trade, Anchiano Therapeutics Ltd (NASDAQ:ANCN) which lost 37.81% to settle at 4.950 and OrganiGram Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:OGI) which was down 35.58% to 3.87 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1728 to 1340 and 91 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1834 fell and 1320 advanced, while 64 ended unchanged.
Shares in KLA-Tencor Corporation (NASDAQ:KLAC) rose to all time highs; gaining 8.83% or 26.28 to 323.89. Shares in Applied Materials Inc (NASDAQ:AMAT) rose to all time highs; rising 7.39% or 7.82 to 113.70. Shares in iFresh Inc (NASDAQ:IFMK) rose to 52-week highs; up 79.33% or 1.1900 to 2.6900. Shares in RCM Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:RCMT) rose to 52-week highs; rising 71.27% or 2.630 to 6.320.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.68% to 21.62.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.90% or 16.50 to $1826.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.31% or 0.77 to hit $57.91 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.07% or 0.66 to trade at $60.81 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.16% to 1.2135, while USD/JPY rose 0.15% to 104.72.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 90.377.
