Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Consumer Services, Basic Materials and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 1.30% to hit a new 1-month low, while the S&P 500 index fell 1.89%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 2.72%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD), which rose 0.58% or 1.46 points to trade at 254.59 at the close. Meanwhile, Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) added 0.38% or 0.62 points to end at 162.62 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) was up 0.15% or 0.22 points to 142.95 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which fell 6.94% or 10.24 points to trade at 137.38 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) declined 4.09% or 8.75 points to end at 205.44 and Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) was down 3.93% or 8.42 points to 205.93.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were CF Industries Holdings Inc (NYSE:CF) which rose 2.64% to 66.00, Ventas Inc (NYSE:VTR) which was up 2.22% to settle at 52.48 and VF Corporation (NYSE:VFC) which gained 2.06% to close at 68.00.
The worst performers were Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) which was down 21.79% to 397.50 in late trade, SVB Financial Group (NASDAQ:SIVB) which lost 10.21% to settle at 581.76 and Huntington Bancshares Incorporated (NASDAQ:HBAN) which was down 8.99% to 15.18 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Blue Star Foods Corp (NASDAQ:BSFC) which rose 100.00% to 3.80, Pintec Technology Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:PT) which was up 55.31% to settle at 1.3900 and CF Acquisition Corp V (NASDAQ:CFV) which gained 31.31% to close at 12.330.
The worst performers were Oceanpal Inc (NASDAQ:OP) which was down 52.50% to 0.56 in late trade, ReTo Eco-Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:RETO) which lost 28.10% to settle at 1.7400 and Renovare Environmental Inc (NASDAQ:RENO) which was down 24.70% to 0.5576 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2690 to 630 and 112 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 3244 fell and 728 advanced, while 150 ended unchanged.
Shares in Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) fell to 52-week lows; losing 21.79% or 110.75 to 397.50. Shares in Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) fell to 52-week lows; falling 6.94% or 10.24 to 137.38. Shares in Oceanpal Inc (NASDAQ:OP) fell to all time lows; losing 52.50% or 0.62 to 0.56. Shares in CF Acquisition Corp V (NASDAQ:CFV) rose to all time highs; up 31.31% or 2.940 to 12.330. Shares in Renovare Environmental Inc (NASDAQ:RENO) fell to all time lows; falling 24.70% or 0.1829 to 0.5576.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 12.74% to 28.85 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.36% or 6.70 to $1835.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.83% or 0.71 to hit $84.84 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.72% or 0.64 to trade at $87.74 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.30% to 1.1344, while USD/JPY fell 0.35% to 113.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 95.620.
