U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 1.07%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Financials, Industrials and Basic Materials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 1.07% to hit a new 3-months low, while the S&P 500 index declined 1.45%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 1.76%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 2.95% or 0.78 points to trade at 27.22 at the close. Meanwhile, JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) added 2.54% or 3.31 points to end at 133.65 and The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) was up 1.01% or 1.76 points to 175.68 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT), which fell 5.79% or 13.95 points to trade at 227.01 at the close. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) declined 4.22% or 14.42 points to end at 327.67 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) was down 3.73% or 6.42 points to 165.70.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) which rose 2.95% to 27.22, JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) which was up 2.54% to settle at 133.65 and AbbVie Inc (NYSE:ABBV) which gained 1.61% to close at 149.72.

The worst performers were Signature Bank (NASDAQ:SBNY) which was down 22.87% to 70.00 in late trade, First Republic Bank (NYSE:FRC) which lost 14.84% to settle at 81.76 and Charles Schwab Corp (NYSE:SCHW) which was down 11.69% to 58.70 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were EUDA Health Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:EUDA) which rose 54.20% to 2.02, Unicycive Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:UNCY) which was up 30.10% to settle at 2.68 and Cingulate Inc (NASDAQ:CING) which gained 25.00% to close at 1.85.

The worst performers were Loyalty Ventures Inc (NASDAQ:LYLT) which was down 58.39% to 0.24 in late trade, Allbirds Inc (NASDAQ:BIRD) which lost 47.03% to settle at 1.25 and Cepton Inc (NASDAQ:CPTN) which was down 45.75% to 0.42 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2592 to 465 and 68 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 3047 fell and 585 advanced, while 132 ended unchanged.

Shares in Signature Bank (NASDAQ:SBNY) fell to 5-year lows; losing 22.87% or 20.76 to 70.00. Shares in First Republic Bank (NYSE:FRC) fell to 52-week lows; losing 14.84% or 14.25 to 81.76. Shares in Charles Schwab Corp (NYSE:SCHW) fell to 52-week lows; down 11.69% or 7.77 to 58.70. Shares in Loyalty Ventures Inc (NASDAQ:LYLT) fell to all time lows; down 58.39% or 0.34 to 0.24. Shares in Unicycive Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:UNCY) rose to 52-week highs; up 30.10% or 0.62 to 2.68. Shares in Allbirds Inc (NASDAQ:BIRD) fell to all time lows; losing 47.03% or 1.11 to 1.25. Shares in Cepton Inc (NASDAQ:CPTN) fell to all time lows; falling 45.75% or 0.35 to 0.42.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 9.69% to 24.80 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 2.07% or 38.05 to $1,872.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.06% or 0.80 to hit $76.52 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.23% or 1.00 to trade at $82.59 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.57% to 1.06, while USD/JPY fell 0.91% to 134.90.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.67% at 104.60.
