Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Technology and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.69%, while the S&P 500 index lost 1.12%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 1.26%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which rose 2.90% or 4.42 points to trade at 156.86 at the close. Meanwhile, Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) added 1.47% or 4.26 points to end at 294.92 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) was up 1.31% or 0.41 points to 31.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V), which fell 2.85% or 6.58 points to trade at 224.70 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 2.54% or 0.77 points to end at 29.51 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) was down 2.18% or 2.00 points to 89.82.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which rose 8.69% to 137.75, Zions Bancorporation (NASDAQ:ZION) which was up 4.63% to settle at 29.39 and Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which gained 4.60% to close at 215.99.
The worst performers were Las Vegas Sands Corp (NYSE:LVS) which was down 6.35% to 55.71 in late trade, First Republic Bank (OTC:FRCB) which lost 6.13% to settle at 0.34 and Universal Health Services Inc (NYSE:UHS) which was down 6.11% to 126.98 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were CohBar Inc (NASDAQ:CWBR) which rose 223.23% to 5.01, HeartCore Enterprises Inc (NASDAQ:HTCR) which was up 92.19% to settle at 2.46 and Lifecore Biomedical Inc (NASDAQ:LFCR) which gained 50.19% to close at 8.05.
The worst performers were Nanthealth LLC (NASDAQ:NH) which was down 47.47% to 1.35 in late trade, T2 Biosystms Inc (NASDAQ:TTOO) which lost 38.51% to settle at 0.17 and Microvast Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MVST) which was down 36.36% to 1.40 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1797 to 1151 and 100 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1934 fell and 1636 advanced, while 124 ended unchanged.
Shares in T2 Biosystms Inc (NASDAQ:TTOO) fell to all time lows; down 38.51% or 0.11 to 0.17.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 7.67% to 18.53.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.01% or 0.10 to $1,977.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.58% or 1.14 to hit $73.19 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.47% or 1.12 to trade at $77.11 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.40% to 1.08, while USD/JPY fell 0.02% to 138.57.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.35% at 103.44.
